Emerging Architects Prize Tour | ThermalHEART | AWS

When The Institute came to us with the idea of an Emerging Architects Prize Tour, we couldn’t wait to get the ball rolling and begin this initiative. Allowing the opportunity for the National Winner to speak in front of groups emerging architects, around the country, was too good an offer not to extend our sponsorship of the Emerging Architects Prize.

Nic Brunsdon, National Emerging Architect Prize Winner and local WA winner, travelled the country to present on Pride and Vulnerability. A topic he believed would be powerful and impactful, it certainly was. Nic spoke about the ups and downs of starting his own business and that time in his life when he only had $5 to his name and needed to choose between a stapler and lunch. Inevitably, he chose the stapler.

Each state had 3-4 emerging architects who could also present on the topic. They needed one image for Pride, one for Vulnerability and were to talk for 2min.  There was a great mixture of images from architectural projects and their personal lives which gave the audience a snippet of insight into the person who stood in front of them.

The local winner from the Emerging Architect Prize in each state also spoke on how winning the prize has impacted them. It was wonderful to see how the prize had positively impacted so many of them and seeing them thrive in what they do.

Each event had a wonderful turn out and the NSW event didn’t have enough seats! I don’t think anyone minded though as standing room was closest to the bar at the wonderful Johnson Pilton Walker Architects office.

This event will run every year and we already can’t wait for the announcement of the 2016 National Winner to do this all again!
