As a long standing supporting corporate partners of The Australian Institute of Architects, one of the major awards we sponsor is the Emerging Architects Prize. This prize recognises an individual who has made a major contribution to architecture, including advocating change and involvement in the industry.
We are privileged to participate on the jury in each state and also present the prize at the awards. The winner receives a cash prize, a ticket to the National Awards and can attend special emerging architect’s events. One particular event is the Emerging Architects Breakfast where we give the chance for the winner, past winner, jury and a member from the Institute to reflect on the program and just talk architecture. These breakfasts were held at trending cafes in each state last year where the interior and exteriors inspired us all... and the breakfasts inspired us to get into the kitchen more at home! We are excited to host them again this year.
A big congratulations to the 2016 Emerging Architect Prize winners that have been announced so far:
Northern Territory: Joanna Best (Troppo Architects)
Australian Capital Territory: Yuri Leong (YL Architecture)
Tasmania: Philip M Dingemanse (Philip M Dingemanse + Design)
New South Wales: Brendan Murray (Johnson Pilton Walker Architects)
South Australia: Candy Aung (Grieve Gillett Dimmitty Anderson Architects)
Each prize winner has proven to be talented, creative and poetic in their designs. They live and breathe architecture. Be sure to keep an eye out for them, we have a feeling they will do great things!
The Emerging Architect Prize Winner for Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia is still to be announced.
The National Emerging Architect Prize will be awarded at the National Awards in Brisbane later in the year.
